Hay-Scented Fern - Maine Native

from $27.00

Dennstaedtia punctilobula, the eastern hayscented fern or hay-scented fern, is a species of fern native to Maine and eastern North America. Known for its excellent ability to thrive in wet areas as well as sunny sections of properties, it is excellent as a groundcover for storm water management that prevents erosion much more effectively than traditional grass lawns or clustered perennials on garden beds with slopes.

This species of fern limits the growth of invasive species to protect native biodiversity and is not a plant threatened by deer or other garden pests.

Other than basic weeding and watering during the first year after planting, it requires little-to-no maintenance. It will thrive in places that other groundcovers fail and while it doesn’t have a blossom, it’s effervescent green turns to a golden yellow in the fall for spectacular color. Add LED accent lighting and it will take your breath away.
